Interim Report FJiLNRC 84-098 dated 6/21/84 from GLKoester, KG&E, to EHJohnson, NRC Subj: Final 10CFR50.55(c) Report - Lead Auditor Qualification (53564-K139)

Dear Mr. Deniso:

This letter providos the final report submitted pursuant to 10CFR50.55(o) concerning the cortification of a lead auditor for a vendor, Technical Metals, Inc. (TMI), at Wolf Crook Generating Station (WCGS). This matter was initially reported on May 24, 1984 with supplemental information provided in the Reference.

As indicated in the Reference, two insulation vendors originally audited by uncertiflod personnel were audited again utilizing fully-cortified personnel. The audit of PABCO Insulation did not identify any significant nonconformances, however, the audit of KNAUF Fiborglass identified that representativo samplos from some production lots were not taken.

In order to datormino if the material in question was suitable for use in any system, sampics from each lot of insulation remaining in the Sito warehouro woro chemically analyzed and found acceptable. However, due to the inability to determino the chemical content of insulation lots previously installed, the Architect / Engineer dispositioned the removal of all installed insulation on stainless stool piping or equipment except for the fivo boron thormal regonoration domineralizers (FBG02A, FBG02B, FBG02C, FBG02D, FDG02E). These domineralizers are neither part of the reactor coolant system pressure boundary or safety-related.

In addition, those components are not subjected to either high stress or elevated temperatures. Thorofore, the installed insulation was deemed acceptable for continued uso on those components.
