Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 1 Docket No. 50-313 License No. DPR-51 AP&L Submittal of an Updated Pump and Valve Inservice Testing Program for ANO-1 Gentlemen:

In accordance with the requirements of 10CFR50.55a, enclosed is Arkansas Power & Light Company's updated Pump and Valve Inservice Testing (IST)

Program for Arkansas Nuclear One - Unit 1 (ANO-1). NRC's review and approval of this program is requested.

ANO-1 Technical Specifica'. ion 4.0 requires that " Inservice Inspection of ASME Code Class 1, 2, 3 components shall be performed in accordance with Section XI of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and applicable addenda as required by 10CFR50, Section 50.55a(g), except where specific written relief has been granted by the NRC pursuant to 10CFR50, Section 50.55a(g)(6)(i)".

10CFR50, Section 50.55a(g)(4)(iv) states that "... tests of pumps and valves...may meet the requirements set forth in subsequent editions and addenda that are incorporated by reference in paragraph (b) of this section...and subject to Commission approval."

10CFR50.55a(b)(2) presently referencesSection XI including " editions through the 1980 edition and addenda through the Winter 1981 addenda".

Therefore, in accordance with the above requirements, Arkansas Power & light Company proposes to perform inservice testing of the a9plicable pumps and valves using IWP and IWV sections of the referenced edition and addenda of 8503040457 850220 a(

'Mr. J: F. Stolz February 20, 1985 the code as described herein. Where such testing is impractical due to design or operating limitations, relief from code requirements has been requested and alternate testing methods proposed. Relief requests are contained in Section IV of the attached program description.

Finally, in accordance with the revised 10 CFR 170 requirements effective June 20, 1984, enclosed is our $150 application fee for the NRC's review of the enclosed IST Program for ANO-1.
