, PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS EVENT-- PNS-78-58 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance. The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

FACILITY: Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit No. 3 Louisiana Power and Light Company (Docket Na. 50-382)

SUBJECT:

BOMB THREAT i

At 10:20 a.m. , November 27, 1978, the licensee's switchboard operator received a bomb threat from an on-site extension telephone. The caller sa'id, "The bomb will go off 11:00 a.m." The switchboard operator recognized the voice as that of the same male that called in the bomb threat on November 22, 1978.

The licensee elected not to evacuate the constructicq site and a search was initiated. No bomb was found and normal activities were resumed at 11:20 a.m. ,

The St. Charles Parrish Sheriff Department was notified by the licensee at the time of the initial call and participated in the bomb search.

The New Orleans Office of the FBI was notified by Plant Security.

Bureau of Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms was. notified by Region IV.
