November 22, 1978 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF SAFEGUARDS' EVENT--

PNS-78-56 This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance.

The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

FACILITY: Waterford Steam Electric Station, Unit No. 3 Louisiana Power and Light Company (Docket No. 50-382)

St. Charles Parrish, Louisana

SUBJECT:

B0MB THREAT At 8:25 a.m., November 22, 1978, the licensee's switchboar.d operator received a bomb threat from an on-site extension telephone.

The male caller said, "The bomb will go off 10:00 a.m."

The licensee elected to evacuate the construction site at 9:30 a.m. and a search was initiated.

No bomb was found and normal activities were resumed at 10:30 a.m.

The St. Charles Parrish Sheriff Department was notified at the time of the 3

initial call and participated in the bomb search.

The New Orleans office Q

of the FBI was notified by Plant Security at' 10:43 a.m.
