Notification of Unusual Event Waterford 3 Alert Killona, Louisiana Site Area Emergency Dockets: 50-382 General Emergency X Not Applicable Su'bject: SHUTDOWN GREATER THAN 72 HOURS On September 17,1998, at 8:37 p.m. (CDT), the licensee commenced shutdown of the reactor in order to replace the pressurizer code safety valve that had been experiencing increased leakage. The maximum safety valve leakage was estimated as 0.3 gpm. The licensee plans to restart the facility on September 23, after replacing two pressurizer code safety valves. Other major work planned during this outage is the replacement of the Main Transformer B.
Region IV was notified of the intent to begin the shutdown by the resident inspectors on September 17.
The state of Louisiana has been notified. NRR, OEDO, and OPA have been notified.
