The infonnation is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region IV staff on this date.

0FFSITE CONTAMINATION On January 22, 1987, an instrument technician was found to be contaminated when exiting a work area control point. Further investigation into this matter revealed that the technician was actually contaminated on January 21, 1987, and that he had worn a contaminated shirt home. The licensee conducted a survey of the technician's car and residence and found a shirt contaminated with about 20,000 dpm. No other offsite contamination was i_dentified. The licensee is investigating the incident to determine why the contamination was not identified prior to the technician leaving the plant.

The licensee has not issued a press release but is considering issuing one.

The state of Louisiana has been informed.

Region IV received notification of this occurrence by telecon from the SRI at 1:00 p.m. , January 23, 1987. Region IV has informed IE, NRR, SP, and the PA0.
