.# , Beaver VaHey Pcwer Station 1997 Annusi Repot . of Pressurizer PORV or Pressurizer Safety Valve Chalkrign This report is submitted in accordar.ce with the Beaver Valley Power Station Unit Nos 1 and 2 Technical Specifications 6.9.1.4 and 6.9.1.5.b.

1! Bill:

There was one challenge to the Power Operated Relief Valves (PORV) at Unit I during the period of January 1,1997, to December 31,1997.

Date: July 18,1997 Plant Condition: Mode 5, Reactor Coolant System (RCS) pressure was 378 psig, Overpressure Protection System (OPPS) was in service. Shutdown of RC-P-I A in progress.

Summary: Pressurizer PORV, PCV-RC-455C, momentarily opened as a result of a slow pressure rise of the RCS. When RC-P-l A was shut down, the RCS experienced reduced spray to the pressurizer. The effect was an increasing pressure nse until the OPPS system received an actuating signal from PT-RC-403. The PORV remained open until RCS pressure had decreased to 348 psig as indicated by PT-RC-402 and 375 psig as indicated by PT-RC-403.

There were no challenges to the pressurizer safety valves at Unit I during the period of

January 1,1997, to December 31,1997.

l!!!iG:

. There was one challenge to the PORVr. at Unit 2 during the period of January 1,1997, to December 31,1997.

Date: October 2,1997 Phnt Condition: Mr.le 1. RCS pressure was 2235 psig, Normal Operating Parameters.

?RC3*PCV455C opened for approximately 7 seconds.

Summary: Plant operating in Mode 1,100% power when a comparator card failure caused 2RCS*PCV455C to open until the Reactor Operator placed the control switch to close and energized two additional banks of pressurizer heaters to restore pressure. During the transient, pressure decreased from 2235 psi to 2180 psi.

There were no challenges to the pressurizer safety valves at Unit 2 during the period of January 1 1997, to December 31,1997.
