SUBJECT:

SITE VISIT BY THE CIVIL / STRUCTURAL GROUP

\

Two members of the Civil / Structural Group, TRT, visited the Comanche Peak Project Site on August 27 through August 29, 1985, and met with the representatives of the Texas Utilities Generating Company (TUGCO) and their contractors. The purposes of the visit were:

1. To witness the Unit 1 cable tray supports walkdown in progress.
2. To collect the infomation pertinent to the new allegations.

A. A walkdown of five cable tray hangers (CTH) was observed in Unit 1 Contain-ment building. The TRT members have been provided with the instructions describing the procedures by which the walkdown is conducted. During the discussion proceeding the walkdown the engineer in charge discussed with the TRT the procedures and the status of the walkdown. The CTH verification program consists primarily of checking the as-built condition against the available infomation which is contained on the Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) drawing.

B. The TRT witnessed two conduit support tests which were conducted by the Corporate Consulting and Development Co., Ltd. (CCL) of Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The tests witnessed were designated as G-14T and G-15T. In both tests the failure occurred when the clamp bolt nut was pulled out from the unistrut channel.

Plans for future testing of conduit supports and cable tray supports were discussed with TUGC0 representatives.

C. The TRT staff ' gathered the information which is needed for the resolution of allegations AC-86, AC-87 and AC-88. In this connection the staff was escorted to the North Pump Room where Hilti bolts were allegedly installed without documentation (AC-87), to elevation 852 feet 6 inches of the Auxiliary Building where fcur holes were alleged to be drilled through the floor (AC-88), and obtained records of measurements and the procedures pertinent to the Containment Unit I liner installation (AC-86).
