Dear Senator Hatch:

i i

I appreciatre being on your mai12nq 1 int for "The Wm hintston i Report". I read each iucue with i nt m'on t . MLun u :a yom' rK od work.

l' The July insue was of uprcial interest to ran for the articlet.

about the help you have given to puoole with problemn. This prompted me to write this letter to you regarding a problem of mine you may or may not be ablo to help mo with.

i This in the situation: In October of 1982, on the ree_mmand-ation of a Merri11 Lynch account executive, I invectud a sizeable amount of money in the Washington State Public Power System Nuclear power proJoct 3 Rev. At the time I qunuti a d the stability of that program, but was assured that the 00-called "Bonneville No. 3" that I was invecting in was a federal project and would be built regardless of the fabe of the other unitu involved. On thin anuurance, I pr.>c ond ed j with the investment.

Shortly thereafter, I learned that the entire project was halted due to lack of fundu or whatever other reasonu, and that all assets were frozen. This was a hard blow for a l retiree like myself and probably many others a l no. An far au l I know there is no current market value for these cucurition and no way to recover the inventment.

My questions are: What is the current utatus of this project? Is it permanently dead or in there hope it may be resumed at some later date? If it in permanently dead, will I ever be possible to recover some or all o f ray investment?

In there any hope the federal government raay come to the

' rescue of this project?

I realize there may be no answer to some of these quentionu, but any information you can supply me will be greatly apprec-iated.

1 Thank you for your interest and attention.

}

Respectfully yours,

/
