SUMMARY

OF FEBRUARY 25, 2003, MEETING TO DISCUSS PLANS FOR CORRECTIVE ACTIONS AND MODIFICATIONS FOR THE BRUNSWICK SPRINKLER HEADS UNDER HEAT COLLECTORS IN THE CABLE SPREADING ROOMS (TAC NOS. MB7323 AND MB7324)

On February 25, 2003, the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) met with Carolina Power & Light Company (the licensee, a Progress Energy Company) at the request of the licensee to discuss plans for corrective actions for and modifications to the sprinkler heads under the heat collectors in the cable spreading rooms (CSR) at Brunswick Steam Electric Plant, Units 1 and 2 (BSEP). In addition to concerns about the current fire protection licensing basis, the licensee presented plans for the resolution of fire suppression deficiencies in the CSR and plans to ensure compliance with Section III.G.3, Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 50, Appendix R. The meeting was held at the BSEP in Southport, North Carolina, and was open to the public. The notice for the meeting was issued on February 13, 2003. is the list of attendees. Enclosure 2 contains the slides handed out by the licensee.

There was no handout from the NRC staff.

The licensee presented the information on its planned resolution in its handout, and the NRC staff asked questions during the presentation.
