SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF AUGUST 8, 2008, MEETING TO DISCUSS NEW ALERT AND NOTIFICATION SYSTEM (ANS) FOR THE INDIAN POINT ENERGY CENTER WITH ENTERGY NUCLEAR NORTHEAST On August 8, 2008, at 1:00 p.m., a meeting was held to discuss the status of the new alert and notification system (ANS) for the Indian Point Energy was conducted at the Westchester Marriott Tarrytown in Tarrytown, NY, between the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Entergy Nuclear Northeast (Entergy). The NRC requested this meeting to discuss the issues, testing, and completion date for the new ANS. Additionally, prior to the meeting from 12:30 p.m.

to 1:00 p.m., the NRC held an informational session where NRC representatives met informally with members of the public.

The NRC presentation included a brief discussion on the history of the Indian Point Energy Centers new ANS and an overview of the steps the agency will to ensure all requirements for the new system are met. As part of this meeting, Entergy presented an overview of the features of the new ANS. Members of the public observed the meeting.

After completion of the first half of the meeting between the NRC and Entergy, NRC staff held a question and answer session with members of the public to respond to questions regarding NRC actions related to the installation and testing of the new siren system.
