D. Wrona 2 PURPOSE: The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received a license renewal application (LRA) from Union Electric Company dated December 15, 2011, for the renewal of the operating license for Callaway Plant, Unit 1. The purpose of the meetings is for the NRC staff to describe the license renewal process and to allow members of the public the opportunity to provide comments regarding environmental issues the NRC should consider during its review of the LRA. These meetings are being conducted as part of the scoping process outlined in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 51 to support development of an environmental impact statement related to the license renewal action.

See the enclosed agenda. The January 3, 2012, Federal Register notice (77 FRN 142) contains additional information. The license renewal application is available at http://www.nrc.gov/reactors/operating/

licensing/renewal/applications/callaway.html on the NRC's Web page or in the Agencywide Document Access and Management System at Accession No. ML113530374. Both formal sessions will be preceded by an informal open house beginning one hour prior to each session for those who wish to attend. The open house will provide members of the public with an opportunity to speak with NRC staff. Members of the public may register to present oral comments at this meeting by contacting Ms.

Carmen Fells, at 800-368-5642, ext. 6337, or bye-mail at Carmen.Fells@nrc.gov by March 7, 2012. Those who wish to make comments may also register at the meeting within 15 minutes of the start of each session. Individual oral comments may be limited by the time available, depending on the number of persons who register. Ms. Fells will need to be contacted no later than March 7, 2012, if special equipment or accommodations are needed to attend or to present information at the public meeting.
