SUMMARY OF PUBLIC MEETING
On March 27, 2018, at 6:00 p.m., an annual assessment meeting for Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station (Pilgrim) was held at Hotel 1620 in Plymouth, MA, between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Entergy Nuclear Operations, Inc. (Entergy). The meeting was conducted in two parts, a discussion between NRC and Entergy, followed by a question and answer period with members of the public.
To start, NRC presented its assessment of the safety performance of Pilgrim for calendar year 2017, and discussed the status of follow-up inspections to review Entergy's fulfillment of commitments listed in the Confirmatory Action Letter (CAL) issued by the NRC in August 2017.
Entergy management then provided their perspectives on the organization's focus areas and plant performance. NRC staff also provided a brief update on the operational status of Pilgrim at the time of the meeting. Copies of the slides presented by both the NRC and Entergy are included as enclosures to this meeting summary. Members of the public, local and State officials, and staffers representing local area Congressional offices observed the discussions.
Following the meeting between the NRC and Entergy, attendees were offered the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials or make statements. Several local and State representatives spoke, and several Congressional staff members read prepared statements (copies are included as enclosures). Questions raised by members of the public were addressed by the NRC staff.
