SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF AUGUST 26, 2021, CLARIFICATION CALL WITH HOLTEC DECOMMISSIONING INTERNATIONAL, LLC, REGARDING EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (EPID: L-2021-LLA-0021)

At the request of the licensee, Holtec Decommissioning International, LLC (HDI), the U.S.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) had a clarification call with HDI on August 26, 2021.

The purpose of the meeting was a clarification teleconference to ensure the licensee understands the Request for Additional Information (RAI) questions that were issued on August 16, 2021 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)

Accession No. ML21223A239) for the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station (Pilgrim) Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation Emergency Preparedness application review.

The meeting began with opening remarks by the NRC staff, followed by introductions of the attendees. A list of attendees is provided in the Table below:

NRC HDI Amy Snyder, NMSS Andrea Sterdis Keith Miller, NSIR David Noyes Michael Norris, NSIR Mary Gatlick Each RAI question was reviewed to ensure that the licensee understood the questions. The licensee wanted to know the level of detail that the NRC staff expected a licensee to submit.

The NRC staff shared with the license the types of information that other licensees have provided that were acceptable to the NRC staff.

HDI estimates that its RAI responses will be submitted to the NRC within the period requested.

The NRC summarized the remainder of the review process schedule and determined that the review is still on track to complete by the end of October 2021. August 26, 2021 2

At this meeting, the NRC staff made no regulatory decisions about the merits of the HDI proposed RAI responses.
