Licensee: Alabama Power Company (EA88-40)

Farley Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-348 and 50-364

Subject:

PROPOSED IMPOSITION OF CIVIL PENALTY - $450,000 This is to inform th: Comission that a Notice of Violation and Proposed Irposition of Civil Penalty in the amount of Four Hundred Thousand end Fifty Dollars ($450,000) will be issued on or about August 15, 1988 to Alabama Power Cumpany. This action is based on violations of the equipment qualification requirements of 10 CFR 50.49. The staff submitted this action for the Comission's review in SECY-88-213 which has been approved by the Comission.

It should be noted that the licensee has not been specifically inforred of the enforcement action. The schedule of issuance and notification is:

Mailing of Notice August 15, 1988 Telephone Notification of Licensee August 15, 1988 The State of Alabama will be notified.

The licensee has thirty days from the date of the Notice in which to respond.

Following NRC evaluation of the response, the civil penalty may be remitted, mitigated, or imposed by Order.
