RANCHO SECO SHUTDOWN (UPDATE)

The licensee is continuing to cooldown the plant. As of 1:20 p.m. PDT, June 8, 1989, the reactor coolant system temperature was approximately 420 "F. The licensee expects the plant to enter Cold Shutdown on Saturday, June 10, 1989.

The CEO Nuclear, Mr. Joseph Firlit, today announced his resignation. He will remain in his position for the_next 30-60 days. Work force reductions have been initiated which will initially involve approximately 420 nonessential contractor clerical, engineering and crafts personnel. Additional reductions are expected to be announced in the near future. _ Region V will continue to closely follow the licensee's actions in this regard.
