FIRE IN ANNUNCIATOR PANEL 4

On February 8,1988, with the unit in cold shutdown during an extended outage, at about 3:50 pm, PST, a fire occurred in the "8" innunciator control cabinet. The "A" cabinet -

is positioned alongside the "8" cabinet. Both cabinets of the annunciators were electrically isolated to stop the fire.

The "A" cabinet suffered no apparent damage. At this time, the "A" cabinet computer '

cards are being cleaned and progress is being made to return the A" cabinet to service. ,

The panels use 125 VDC power and were manufactured by Electro-Device Inc. of St. Louis,  !

Missouri (no longer in business). The licensee is investigating the availability of spare computer cards.  !

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. All testing has been temporarily f suspended. The licensee is assessing the impact on the restart effort. The licensee .

has compensatory measures in effect and is manually monitoring a list of vital plant '

parameters. No loss of decay heat removal capability occurred.

The licenses issued a press release on February 8,1988. There has been media interest. l This information is current as of 11:30 am, PST, February 9, 1988.
