SMUD BOARD V0TES TO NEGOTIATE FOR POTENTIAL SALE OF RANCHO SECO The SMUD Board voted on July 20, 1989, by a 4-1 vote, to enter into exclusive  ;

negotiations with the Quadrex Corporation for the possible sale of Rancho Seco. During '

the Board meeting the SMUD staff presented key milestone dates as follows:

August 3: Outline a Memorandum of Understanding (M0V) '

Board Reading of Ballot Language August 8: Second Ballot Reading to Board / Adoption August 11: File Ballot Measure with Registrar of Voters September 15: M00 Complete September 21: Adopt MOV Determine Policy Direction on Closure Plan l October 1: Closure Work Begins to Impact Restart October 12: Contract Language Complete November 7: General Election February 1: Quadrex Target Date for License Transfer i

Although the SMUD staff is working to the above schedule, the Board maintained that j several key issues must be addressed before the Board would approve placing a ballot measure before the voters. The SMUD Board indicated that if the deadlines for the general election could not be met, the Board would consider placing the measure

'before the voters in a special election.

The plant remains in cold shutdown at approximately 110*F. Work continues toward I "defueling the plant in November / December 1989.
