SUMMARY

OF OCTOBER 2, 2020, TELECONFERENCE WITH INDIANA MICHIGAN POWER COMPANY REGARDING DONALD C. COOK NUCLEAR PLANT, UNIT NO. 1 (EPID L-2020-LRM-0096)

On October 2, 2020, a Category I public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M or the licensee) via teleconference. The purpose of the meeting was for I&M to provide information on a potential emergency request for the Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant (CNP), Unit No. 1, related to obtaining relief from certain requirements of American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code Case N-729-6, Alternative Examination Requirements for PWR Reactor Vessel Upper Heads With Nozzles Having Pressure-Retaining Partial-Penetration WeldsSection XI, Division 1. The meeting notice dated October 1, 2020, and agenda are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML20275A409. A list of attendees is provided as Enclosure 1.

The licensee indicated that as part of the CNP, Unit 1, ongoing refueling outage, the reactor vessel closure head (RVCH) visual examination was performed in accordance with the requirements of ASME Code N-729-6, and it was discovered that relevant conditions of corrosion, boric acid deposits, and discolorations exist on the Unit 1 RVCH. The licensee plans to request relief from the required supplemental examinations.

Two members of the public participated in the meeting. No regulatory decisions were made at this meeting.
