SUMMARY

OF THE APRIL 16, 2008, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE 2007 D.C. COOK UNIT 1 AND UNIT 2 END-OF-CYCLE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENTS On April 16, 2008, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Lake Charter Township Hall in Bridgman, Michigan. The meeting was between NRC Region III management and Indiana Michigan Power Company representatives to discuss the NRCs 2007 End-of-Cycle Assessment of the D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant Unit 1 and 2 safety performances.

The results of these assessments were discussed in a letter to the licensee dated March 3, 2008 (ADAMS ML080600289).

The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRC and the nuclear industry, the NRCs Reactor Oversight Process (ROP), and national ROP results. This was followed by a summary of the NRCs assessment of D.C. Cook Unit 1 and Unit 2 performances in 2007. The NRCs meeting presentation slides can be found in ADAMS at ML081070238. A list of principal meeting attendees can be found in the attached enclosure.

The licensee then provided its perspective on the assessment. In summary, the licensee concurred with the NRC assessment that D.C. Cook Unit 1 and 2 were operated in a manner that preserved the safety of the public and the environment.

At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials.
