This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE national security or public interest significance. The information presented is as initlafE r1ceived without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff as of this date.

B0MB THREAT At approximately 11:35 P.M. on October 15, 1978, Lacy Township, New Jersey Police received a telephone call from an unidentified male who stated that two men would try to detonate a bomb at the Oyster Creak facility. The caller did not give any further details. The police immediately contacted the facility and subsequently assisted in a bomb search. No bomb was found. The licensee did not evacuate the facility.
The police informed the FBI office in Newark, New Jersey who in turn notified the U.S. Secret Service. These Federal agencies did not participate in the bomb search which was completed by 3:10 A.M. on October 16, 1978, at which time the facility resumed normal operations.
Media interest is expected because of current interest in the entire nuclear industry. The State of New Jersey has been informed. A press O release is not planned by the licensee or NRC. f, The IAT has been notified. g NRC, Region I, (Philadelphia) received notification ut this occurrence N by telephone from a licensee representative at 8:45 A.M. on October 16, C-1978.
