CONTRABAND DISCOVERED IN POSSESSION OF NRC INSPECTOR AT ACCESS CONTROL POINT On Sunday, February 2, 1986, the newly appointed NRC Senior Resident Inspector for Rancho Seca was denied access to the site when site security personnel found an unloaded .38 caliber revolver and ammunition in his briefcase during a routine scarch. The briefcase was confiscated and the inspector was permitted to leave the site.
According to the inspector, he lost track of the location of the handgun in the confusion cf relocating from out of state. He states he did not realize the weapon was in his bricfesse as he was attempting to enter the Rancho Seco site to bring in personal work i materials. Region V is currently verifying the facts in this situation. The inspector
.has been temporarily assigned to the regional office pending resolution of the situation.
Region V is issuing a statement to'the media. Region V is unaware of any plans by '
the licensee to issue a sta:ement at this time.
