LB-3, H. Schierling, LPM Requested to Date: January 31, 1985 The information provided by the applicant on the subject issue has been reviewed and evaluated by the Structural and Geotechnical Engineering Branch. Our section of the safety evaluation report supplement is provided in the enclosure.

In summary, our evaluation indicates that the issue yet to be resolved between the staff and the applicant pertains to the applicant's use of the energy-balance technique to qualify 42 masonry walls. The existence of the same issue on Unit I resulted in a license condition for Unit 1.

Therefore, the same license condition is recommended for Unit 2.
