Buckley Requested Completion Date: March 15,1981 Description of Request: Safety Evaluation Report Supplement Rei.few Satus: Complete The Materials Application Section of the Materials Engineering Branch, Division of Engineering, has reviewed and evaluated the request for relief from the inservice inspection and testing requirements of paragraph 50.55a(g)(4)(1) of 10 CFR Part 50.

The request for relief was transmitted to the Commission from Pacific Gas and Electric Company in letter dated December 23, 1980.

We condlude from our revie' w that different Inservice Inspection and Testing Programs for the two units and a continuous updating of the Preservice Program prior to commercial operation imposes a burden on the Pacific Gas and Electric Company without an increase in plant reliability and safety. We concur with the licensee in specifying Section XI of the ASME Code,1977 Edition, including Sunmer 1978 Addenda, as the applicable code for the initial inspection interval for Unit Nos.1 and 2 for the Diablo Canyon Site.

Our Safety Evaluation Report Supplement is attached hereto.
