53- %b ) the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved a request to bury nuclear waste on site at the Cavis-Essse Nuclear Plant in Cttawa County, Chio, and WnEREAS, no public hearing was held prior to such approval nor were any other agencies or individuals consulted prior to such approval, and

'..'H ER EA S, substantial and significant public :oncern, interest and o, position to the burial of radioactive waste on site at Davis-Eesse has caused the Commission to now schedule an

" informal hearing", and WHEREAS, this Council representing a comunity bordering Lake Erie at its confluence with the Rocky River is well aware of the significance of Lake Erie for drinking water for millions of people, for a wide-ranging recreational boating industry and a s,, ort fiahing activity of imense proportions, and WHEREAS, the Oavis-Besse Plant is located in a marsh area and is in close roximity to Ottawa National Wildlife Retuge and Magee v

state Marsh, homes for countless migratory and domestic water-fowl, and WHER EAS, this Council is also aware that only through the dedicated effopts of many private persons and government offi-cials has Lake Erie recently recovered from overuse and abuse caused by contamination, and

'aHEREAS, this Council has already expressed opposition to the storage of nuclear weste in the Ohio Salina Salt Basin (R.R. Resolution c6-ot).

NOW, THEREFCRE, BE IT RESOLVE 0 SY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ROCKY RIVER, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO:

SECT!CN 1 That this Council on behalf of the citizens of the City of Rocky River urges the Governor of the State of Ohio to aggressively examine the possible detrimental consequences yyi. A,.

it shall take effect and be in members elected to Council, force immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor; otherwise it shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
