( Connecticut Yankee Emergency Operating Procedure EOP 3.1-28 TURBINE OVERSPEED 1.0 DISCUSSION 1.1 Turbine overspeed can cause turbine damage if it is not reduced. It can result from any of the followmg causes:

1.1.1 Malfunction of turbine control valves during turbine startup.

1.1.2 A loss of generator load.

1.1.3 Failure of turbine stop and control valves to close following a turbine trip.

1.1.4 Malfunction oflow pressure steam dump system following a turbine trip.

2.0 SYMIrTOMS 2.1 "Turbine Overspeed Trip" alarm.

2.2 Increasing indication on turbine speed recorder.

2.3 Increasing indication on turbine speed indicator.

2.4 Loss of load trip from 86P and / or 86BU relays.

2.5 No closed indication on turbine stop and control valves following a turbine trip.

3.0 AUTOMATIC ACTIONS 3.1 Turbine trip.

3.2 Reactor trip if reactor powa level is above P . 7 (10 %).

3.3 Low Pressure Steam Dump actuation.

1H2 AcnONEXPECTED RESPONSE RESPONSE NOT OBTAINED (

l 4.1 Perform immediate actions in E-0, i REACTOR TRIP OR SAFETY INECTION  ;

l 5.0 SUBSEQUEST ACTIONS  :

5.1 Check turbine speed indicator- Perform the following: l LESS ' IRAN 2300 RPM i

a. Close all four main steamline trip valves,
b. Open pressure controlled steam dump valves to depressurize main steamlines.

5.2 Check turbine stop and control Perform the following:

valves CLOSED

a. Place turbine stop valve control switches in the trip position.
b. Run test motors on any open control valve (s) to the closed position.

5.3 Check turbine speed - E turbine speed is approaching 2300 RPM, STABLE DE DECREASING 'I1EN close all four main steamline trip valves ASI2 open pressure controlled steam dump valves to depressusize main steamlines.
