E0P 301-12 Rev. 4 E0P2 SEP 31987 Connecticut Yankee Emergency Operating Procedure E0P 3.1-12 EMERGENCY B0 RATION 1.0 DISCUSSION 1.1 Emergency boration should be initiated whenever abnormal plant conditions necessitate insertion of negative reactivity.
1.2 Boration will be accomplished by supplying boric acid from the boric acid tank or the Refueling Water Storage Tank (RWST) directly to the charging pump suction.
The charging pump discharge must be directed into a circulating reactor coolant loop.
1.3 Boration may be terminated when a shutdown margin of >3%4X has been attained.
r 1.4 Borate 210 ppm for each stuck rod following reactor trip.
2.0 SYMPTOMS 2.1 Unexplained or uncontrolled reactivity increase as indicated by increasing nuclear flux or startup rate.
2.2 Failure of 2 or more control rods to drop following a reactor trip.
+
2.3 Uncontrolled cooldown as indicated by a decreasing T that is approaching 50*F below the steady state Tave.
avg 3.0 AUTOMATIC ACTION 3.1 Excessive control rod insertion to compensate for an uncontrolled reactivity addition.
3.2 Possible reactor and turbine trip by the Overpower Nuclear Flux Trip (109% of rated power).

E0P 3.1-12 Rev. 4 20P2 SEP 31987 4.0 IMMEDIATE OPERATOR ACTION 4.1 If reactor has tripped refer to E-0 Reactor Trip or Safety Ir.jection.
5.0 SUBSEQUENT OPERATOR ACTION 5.1 Check and/or align the charging pump discharge through the normal charging line to loop 2.
Use fill header valve on an operating loop.
if normal charging to loop 2 is unavailable.
5.2 Al_ign the boric acid pump discharge to the charging pump suction header via BA-MOV-366.
n 5.3 Open the RWST to the charging pump' suction header by opening BA-MOV-373 and CH-MOV-32 and isolate the VCT by closing CH-MOV-257.
5.4 Check running or start one charging pump and one boric acid transfer pump.
5.5 Manually adjust charging flow to maximum without overfilling pressurizer.
5.6 Establish sufficient letdown flow to maintain pressurizer level within the normal band.
5.7 Shutdown the boric acid transfer pumps when a shutdown margin of >3%
AX has been attained.
5.8 Flush lines and restore normal charging and letdown operation.
5.9 Monitor core parameters and borate additionally as necessary.
5.10 Makeup to the boric acid mix tank if necessary.
5.11 Sanple RCS system to determine boron concentration as soon as practicable.
5.12 Call the Duty Officer and file a Plant Information Report as required by ACP 1,2-16.1.
