SUBJECT:
DIABLO CANYON - RERACKING 0F SPENT FUEL P0OLS Enclosed is a request for your review (Routing Slip) of the PG&E report on the reracking of the spent fuel pools for Diablo Canyon Units 1 and 2.
Also enclosed is a TAC fom for each unit (No. 59756 for Unit 1, No. 59757 for Unit 2). Two copies of the report were provided to you earlier through nomal distribution.
A license amendment request (LAR) will be submitted by PG8E in the near future.
Unit I went comercial in May 1985 and PG&E has stated that the first refueling could be as early as July 1986. PG&E would like to complete the rerack modifications in a dry, non-contaminated pool. We request that you review the report and provide your input for the safety evaluation by March 31, 1986, in accordance with the attached proposed SER outline.
Please infom me who in your branch will be the reviewer for this effort. We intend to have a meeting with PG&E in early November to provioe them with our initial comments and identify needs for further information. We expect that written requests for information and other interactions with PG&E will be required to complete our review by March 31, 1986.
