$ 2 1 BBS MEMORANDUM FOR:

Thomas M. Novak, Assistant Director for Licensing, DL FROM:

Dennis M. Crutchfield, Assistant Director for Safety Assessment, DL

SUBJECT:

DIAPLO CANYON UNIT 2 OPERATING EXPERIENCE This memorandum documents the Operating Reactors Assessment Branch's review of operating experience for Diablo Canyon 2 during the low power license period.

The low power license period considered in this survey extended from April 26, 1985 to June 21, 1985. During the nearly two month period, there were no events at the plant which were reportable under 10 CFR 50.72, nor were iny LERs issued. Numerical results from this survey are compared with those from other recently licensed plants in Table 1.

Poth the number and frequency of reportable events for Diablo Canyon 2 during low power operation are below average. The data may be somewhat inconclusive, due to the short period of time and lack of operation outside of Pode 5.

Conclusion Based on this survey of low power operating experience for Diablo Canyon 2 and a comparison with other plants, we conclude that operating experience at Diablo Canyon 2 appears to be more favorable than that at other recently licensed plants.
