SUBJECT:

DIABLO CANYON UNITS 1 AND 2 SPENT FUEL STORAGE P0OL MODIFICATIONS I have completed a portion of the environmental assessment for the Diablo Canyon spent fuel pool expansion.

I need additional information on the fuel pool heat load (Btu /hr) for the original design to determine the percent increase for the new design.

I was unable to find this informa-tion in either the FSAR or the licensee's report describing the re-racking l

of the spent fuel pool. The licensee may be able to provide the information by telephone informally and follow with an official transmittal.

The following represents the additional data needed to complete my analysis:

1)

Provide the peak heat load value in 8tu/hr for the spent fuel pool following a normal refueling, given the original spent fuel pool rack design for Diablo Canyon Units 1 and 2.

2)

Provide the peak heat load in Btu /hr for the spent fuel pool

following a full core discharge of fuel assemblies, given the current spent fuel pool rack design for Diablo Canyon Units 1 and 2.

As I mentioned to you recently I will be leaving the NRC on November 22nd.

If the additional data can be provided prior to that date I'll complete the draft EA.
