TO: All Teachers cf the Owen J. Rcberts Schcol District TM sw FROM: Task Force For Development of School Emergency Pla,nninq Guidelines /

RE: Resource Survey gg f ,

IDATE: May 11, 1983 A citizens' task force of the Owen J. Rcberts School District is currently in the process of preparing a Radiolcgical Emergency Respcnse Plan (RERP). This plan is necessary because all of our schools are in the 10-mile radius Emergency Planning Zone

](EPZ) of the Limerick Nuclear Power Plant. Precedures for sheltering and evacuating istudents are included in the plan. Teachers of the School District will be asked to

! supervise - students during emergency situations which may require sheltering within the building or evacuating school students on buses to a host school outside of the EPZ. An

evacuation of schcol students will be followed by an order to evacuate the entire '
population from the 10-mile EPZ surrounding Limerick.

' C In addition to the threat of a nuclear accident at Limerick, a good Emergency Plan

'will also be useful in the event of any emergency situation which might occur at or near our schools. Toxic waste spills, fires, floods, etc., may occur at any time and we

~should be prepared for such emergencies.

A task force of concerned citizens in the Owen J. Roberts School District has been l commissioned by the School Board to develop Scncol Emergency Planning Guidelines for all j emergency situations. This task force has reviewed several drafts of the Emergency '

' Response Plan and has made recommendations for improving the plan to best meet the needs of the students in'the Owen J. Roberts School District. Final recomendations regarding

emergency procedures and operational details will be made by the task force and reviewec by the School Board for approval. In addition, training sessions to inform staff of the
plan and emergency precedures will be provided during the 1983-84 school year. '

A subccmmittee of this task force has been asked to survey our District teachers to determine the extent of their committment to providing services during emergency

! situations. Attached to this communication is a brief questionnaire which will assist tha task force in completing that goal. Please complete this questionnaire as ithoughtfully as possible to assist the subcommittee of the task force. We would ask lthat all completed questionnaires be returned to the Citizens' Task Force for Emergency Planning, in care of the schcol secretary by May 27, 1983.  %
