Subject:

LaSalle County Nuclear Power Station Units 1 and 2 Withdrawal of Request for Technical Specification Amendment to Facility Operating Licenses NPF-11 and NPF-18; Control Room and Auxiliary Electric Equipment Room Emergency Filtration System Trains NRC Docket Nos. 50-373 and 50-374

References:

Letter from R. Querio to U. S. NRC, dated June 21,1996, LaSalle Submittal Regarding Control  ;

Room and Auxiliary Electric Equipment Room Emergency Filtration System Tra!ns Technical i Specification changes.

In the above Reference, Comed provided LaSalle Station's proposal for revising the Technical Specification requirements for the Control Room and Auxiliary Electric Equipment Room Emergency Filtratior. System Trains for LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2. The proposed changes included an ,

extension of the 18 month surveillance interval and a one time change to the Technical Specifications (TS) to extend the Allowed Outage Time (AOT) for {

i each subsystem of the Control Room and Auxiliary Electric Equipment Room l Emergency Filtration System. A 30 day AOT was requested to perform l replacement of the charcoal adsorber retention screens with tray-type units since the current Technical Specification 7 day AOT would not allow enough time for replacement.

1 The purpose of this letter is to formally withdraw the requested exigent amendment, as presented in the above Reference, for LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2. The amendment is no longer needed since the f(

surveillances have been performed satisfactorily for both subsystems, the [

existing trays repaired, and replacement with tray-type units is no longer needed. In late July,1996, a visual inspection was performed for the A subsystem, and it was determined that repairs were necessary. '

l The repair was performed within the 7 day allowed outage time and it was l evaluated that the replacement with the tray-type unit would not be '

necessary. Subsequently, inspections and repairs to the B subsystem were also performed satisfactorily.

If there are any further questions or comments concerning this matter, please refer them to JoEllen Burns at (815) 357-6761, extension 2383.

l Respectfully, I
