Dear fir. Eisenhut:

By letter of April 22, 1983 to the NRC, Alabama Power Company addressed the requirements of NRC Generic Letter No.83-10d dated February 8,1983. In this submittal, Alatama Power Company stated that, 90 days after receipt of the Westinghouse Owners Group (WOG) generic justification for tripping the reactor coolant pumps (RCPs) during transients and accidents) an evaluation for applicability to the Farley Nuclear Plant would be provided,.] At that time, receipt of the WOG generic response was scheduled for completion by the end of 1983. It is now anticipated that the WOG report justifying manual RCP trip will be submitted by March 1,1984. Alabama Power Company will submit an evaluation of the results of this generic' response to the NRC within 90 days of receipt of the WOG generic response.

A submittal has been transmitted to the NRC by WOG letter 0G-110 dated December 1,1983 which provided an evaluation of alternate RCP trip criteria. Alabama Power Company is evaluating this alternate criteria and will incorporate the appropriate value for manual RCP trip into the Farley Nuclear Plant Emergency Response Procedures (ERPs).

These procedures are scheduled to be revised in accordance with Alabama Power Company's schedule to implement the provisions of Supplement 1 to NUREG-0737.
