Dear Mr. Schwencer:

This letter is provided to document information that has been previously submitted, which should resolve the SER confirmatory item nos. 11,12,13, and 14 regarding fuel issues.

Items 11 and 12, fuel rod mechanical fracturing (SER ref. 4.2.1.2) and fuel assembly structural damage from external forces (SER ref. 4.2.1.3,4.2.3.3) are addressed in the GE Licensing Topical Report (LTR) NEDE-21175-3-P. This report was transmitted with the letter dated July 27,1982 from J. F. Quirk, GE to H. Bernard, NRC (MFN-099-82). Item 12 is also addressed as a Licensing Review Group, LRG-il generic issue 2-CPB.

Fuel rod bowing, confirmatory item no.13, (SER ref. 4.2.3.1) is addressed in GE LTR NEDE-24284-P which was transmitted with the letter dated December 22,1980 from R. H. Buckholz, GE to J. R. Miller, NRC (MFN-221-80). Responses to additional questions on this report were provided in a letter dated December 10, 1981 from H. C. Pfefferlen, GE to J. R. Miller, NRC (MFN-212-81).

The SER discussion on overheating of gadolinia fuel pellets, confirmatory item no.14, (SER ref. 4.2.3.2) references the GE LTR NEDE-20943-P which was withdrawn in December 1981. More recent information was provided in GE LTR NEDE-23785-1-P, transmitted with the letter dated December 30,1981, from J. F. Quirk, GE to J. R. Miller, NRC.

Upon comp. . ion of the staff review of these reports, the confirmatory issues regarding the Perry fuel sptem design should be able to be resolved in the next Supplementary Safety Evaluation Report (SSER No. 2).
