l A. LER NUMBER 82-002/03L-0 B. LICENSEE NAME Commonwealth Edison Company C. FACILITY NAME LaSalle County Nuclear Station - Unit 1 D. DOCKET NUMBER 050-373 E. EVENT DESCRIPTION On April 19, 1982 the Control Room operator noticed the Station Vent Stack Flow Recorder, OFR-VRO19, was reading downscale. Based on known operating conditions the stack flow was estimated to be 300,000 cfm.

A work request was initiated to investigate and correct the problem.

F. PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES OF THE OCCURRENCE At the time of this event, LaSalle Unit One was undergoing initial fuel and there was no irradiated fuel on site. The probability of any radioactive releases to the environment at this time was negligible .

Therefore, the health and safety of the public was not affected. Safe operation of the Unit was maintained at all times and estimated stack flow readings were taken every four hours in accordance with Technical Specification 3.3.7.11.

G. CAUSE The cause of this occurrence was the flow transmitter core hung up at its zero point. This caused the recorder to read downscale. The flow transmitter was manufactured by Hays Republic, Model 252A.

H. CORRECTIVE ACTION A work request was initiated to correct the problem of the chart recorder reading downscale'. Under this work request.the flow transmitter was repaired and the Station Vent Stack Flow Recorder was declared operable at 2040 on April 20, 1982.
