11. LASALLE COUNTY STATION: Unit i lli. DOCKET NUMBER: 050-373 IV. EVENT DESCRIPTION:

4 4 On April 2,1983, with Unit One in hot shutdown, the radwaste effluent monitor was declared inoperable.

'V.

PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES OF THE OCCURRENCE:

Since the Rad / Chem Department took two independent samples and performed two independent release rate calculations in accordance wi th T.S. 3.3.7.10 for each batch discharged, the concentration of radioactive material released f rom the site was limited to the concentrations specified in 10CFR20, Appendix B, Table 11, Column 2 Therefore, the health and safety of the public was not affected.

VI. CAUSE:

! The liquid radwaste effluent PRM was declared inoperable because an accept-able source check could not be perforned due to a relatively high level l of contamination on the chamber surface. LER 83-033/03L-0 was cau' sed by' the .same problem.

Vll. CORRECTIVE ACTION:

The liquid radwaste PRM Inner chamber surface was coated with an acrylic  !

resin, experimentally, to determine if the bulldup of contamination could be prevented. The liquid radwaste PRM was returned to service and is presently functioning properly.
