Power Company re;5orted an item related to welds in vendor-fabricated main steam line (MSL) pipe whip restraints. .

A 100% visual re-inspection of all welds in the fabricated MSL pipe whip restraints is underway to detennine whether they meet the requirements of the American Welding Society Code (AWS D.l.1-1977). Thus far 102 units have been re-inspected, including 51 units at the site and 51 at an off site painting shop. The re-inspection has found that 72 of the units con-tain code rejectable welds. An additional 123 units remain to be re-inspected.

All units at the site have been pla'ced on hold until individually approved for further processing through the re-inspection program and/or disposition of nonconforming conditions. Our next interim report will be submitted on May 1, 1981.

If there are any questions concerning this item, please contact Mr. Michael E. Powell at (713) 676-8592.
