U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 South Texas Project Electric Generating Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50 499 Seventh Interim Report Concerning Veritrak Transmitters On August 1, 1986, Houston Lighting & Power Company (HL&P) notified your office pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e) of an item concerning Veritrak Transmitters at the South Texas Project. Our letter dated December 9, 1987, provided the sixth interim report on this subject and committed to provide a report by March 31, 1988. Although the cause of the errors has not been determined, testing to date has shown that the additional uncertainty allowances factored into the Pressurizer Low Pressure Safety Injection setpoint and Emergency Operating Procedure setpoints are conservative. Therefore, start-up and operation of the South Texas Project may safely continue. Westinghouse has completed testing on the transmitter capsules and amplifiers. Results from the tests indicate that temperature compensation was stable after aging and high temperature cycling of both the capsules and amplifiers. Vestinghouse is presently consolidating data from the test program. Our next report will be submitted by June 30, 1988.
