Attention: Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 South Texas Project Electric Generating Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498 and STN 50-499 Sixth Interim Report Concerning Veritrak Transmitters On August 1,1986, Houston Lighting & Power Company (HIAP) notified your office pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e) of an item concerning Veritrak Transmitters at the South Texas Project. Our letter dated September 10, 1987, provided the fifth interim report on this subject and committed to provide a report by December 15, 1987. Although the cause of the errors has not been determined, {

testing to date has shown that the additional uncertainty allowances factored l into the Pressurizer Low Pressure Safety Injection setpoint and Emergency I Operating Procedure setpoints are conservative. Therefore, startup and operation of the South Texas Project may safely continue. Westinghouse has completed testing on the transmitter capsules and concluded that temperature compensation shifts due to aging or high temperature excursions are no longer a concern for these capsule assemblies. Comparable testing of the amplifier is being performed. Our next report will be submitted by March 31, 1988.
