Dear Mr. Knuth:
In accordance with 10CFR50.55(e), .we wish to advise y'oti that the possible deficiency reported verbally to you on May 4, 1976, is now considered as being verified as ;
a reportable deficiency.
Numerous Power Piping Company hydraulic snubbers have been identified as having fluid leaks in the area of the sightgage. So far the leaks have been at one or more of the following locations :
- 1. 0-ring at the sightgage to reservoir fluid connections
- 2. Seal at sightgage gla s to sightgage housing fluid connections
- 3. Threaded connections at sightgage glass to sightgage housing fluid connections Reason for leakage is considered to be one or more of the following:
- 1. Improper 0-ring or seal material in the Jightgage
- 2. Overcompression of the 0-ring or seal
- 3. Poor workmanship at reservoir connection All P.P.C. snubbers are suspect. h' hen the cause is determines and a suitable repair established it will be applied to all P.P.C. snubbe rs. Possible fixes are:
- 1. Replace ent of sightgage
- 2. Deletion of sightgage, using a dipstick
- 3. Other Very truly yours, cc: N. C. Moseley'ki m m e d
