Per attached letter from Dresser Inc ust ries , d.:ed 1 April 1980, 10 CFR 21 evaluation is being conductec cn Florida Power Corporation's PORY (FPC ID #RCV-10). Follow-up repor: will be suomitted after results of EPRI testing are received.

During last year's incident at the Three Mile Island Nuclear

Power Station Unit 2 and more recently at the Crystal River Nuclear Power Station, water was identified as the flow media through pressurizer pilot operated relief vLives and AD:E code safety valves.

designs, manufactures, and tests ,1. lot operated relief valves and ASME code safety valves. .r e calves are ider.tified under the trademarks " Ele c t ro:  : tic" .ty te s 31533vx-30, 1533D, 1538VX, and type 1525VX) and " ?.. r. s c l i ?. a t e d " { type 31700).

These valves were designed and et.- in accordance with purchaser specifications which .G r.t i fied r ate ra ted s team as the only flow media. The valves are not designed f or, r.c r tested on, any other flow conditions. As a result, the Industrial Valve Operations of Dresser Indus tries , Inc.

cannot and does not provide.any representations, either expressed or implied, regarding the reliability and operation

of the above identified valves when applied on other than saturated steam service.

Any application of pilot op,erated relief valves or ASME code saf ety valves on relieving service that utilizes a flow media :her than saturated steam may be an improper application of th product.

Tne above information has been transmitted verbally and in writing to various utilities, NSSS manufacturers, and regulating bodies at various times.
