OF THE FEBRUARY 19, 2019, PUBLIC MEETING WITH NUSCALE POWER, LLC, TO DISCUSS NUSCALE POWER LLCS DESIGN CHANGES TO THE DECAY HEAT REMOVAL SYSTEM AND EMERGENCY CORE COOLING SYSTEM ACTUATION LOGICS On February 19, 2019, representatives of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and NuScale Power, LLC (NuScale) held a public meeting to discuss NuScales design changes to the decay heat removal system (DHRS) and the emergency core cooling system (ECCS) actuation logic. captures the summary of the topics discussed during the meeting. SUMMARY

OF THE FEBRUARY 19, 2019, PUBLIC MEETING WITH NUSCALE POWER, LLC, TO DISCUSS DESIGN CHANGES TO THE DECAY HEAT REMOVAL SYSTEM AND EMERGENCY CORE COOLING SYSTEM ACTUATION LOGICS NuScale Power, LLC. (NuScale), representatives made a presentation to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff (Agencywide Documents and Management System (ADAMS) (ML19053A517)), and described the ongoing design changes to the actuation logics for the decay heat removal system (DHRS) and emergency core cooling system (ECCS).

NuScale stated that these design changes are necessary to support plant operations, especially, during initial plant startup. NuScale stated that the impact from the logic changes on safety analysis is minimal and some technical specifications will be changed as a result.

NuScale stated that there will be no architecture or fundamental desin changes to the module protection system.

The NRC staff inquired about the Design Certification Application (DCA) Chapters/Sections that would be impacted by the actuation logic changes in the DHRS and ECCS. NuScale stated that some Tier 1 and Tier 2, technical specifications, and some technical reports related to setpoint methodology and advanced sensors would be impacted.

NuScale concluded its presentation by stating that it would submit a schedule to the NRC staff by the end of February 2019, to identify exactly what Chapters/Sections of the DCA would be impacted and that NuScale plans to incorporate the corresponding changes in the Revision 3 to the DCA, which is expected to be submitted in August 2019.
