SUMMARY

OF THE SEPTEMBER 25, 2019, CATEGORY 1, PUBLIC TELECONFERENCE TO DISCUSS THE SUBMITTAL OF THE NUSCALE POWER, LLC, STANDARD DESIGN APPROVAL APPLICATION The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a Category 1 public teleconference on September 25, 2019, to discuss the submittal of the NuScale Power, LLC (NuScale) standard design approval (SDA) application. Several members of the general public participated via Bridgeline during the meeting.

U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION CATEGORY 1 PUBLIC TELECONFERENCE TO DISCUSS THE SUBMITTAL OF THE NUSCALE POWER, LLC, STANDARD DESIGN APPROVAL APPLICATION September 25, 2019 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a Category 1 public teleconference on September 25, 2019, to discuss the submittal of the NuScale Power, LLC (NuScale) standard design approval (SDA) application. Several members of the general public participated via Bridgeline during the meeting.

During the meeting, NuScale presented a regulatory strategy overview on how they plan to submit an SDA application. NuScale is planning to use the SDA review process under Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 52, Subpart E to obtain NRC approval for changes to the existing design currently undergoing NRC staff review. These changes include an increase in thermal power output along with updates that improve commercial viability. The staff will be working with NuScale to develop a pre-application schedule with the submittal of the SDA application planned during the fourth quarter of 2021.

At the conclusion, NRC staff opened up the meeting to questions from the general public. One member of the public asked several questions about the docketing and referencing of the new design. Staff provided information, to the callers satisfaction, on the anticipated process flow and subsequent referencing by a future applicant.
