OF THE JULY 18, 2012, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE BYRON STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2, END-OF-CYCLE PLANT PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On July 18, 2012, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Byron Station Training Building. The meeting was between NRC Region III management and Exelon Generation Company management to discuss the NRC=s assessment of the safety performance of Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, for the period from January 1 through December 31, 2011. The meeting notice and NRC presentation can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML12177A407 and ML12201A315, respectively. A list of principal NRC and licensee meeting participants can be found in the Enclosure.
The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRC=s Reactor Oversight Program (ROP), national ROP results, and the Action Matrix in general. This was followed by a discussion of the NRC=s assessment of the performance of Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, in calendar year 2011, which was documented in the March 5, 2012, end-of-cycle assessment letter, as ML12065A108. As part of this regulatory performance meeting, Exelon briefly responded to the NRC=s assessment. The licensee presentation can be found in ADAMS under ML12201A321. At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials. A list of principal meeting attendees can be found in the attached enclosure.
