Subject:

Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Extended Power Uprate Review:

Reference:

Letter from NRC to TVA, "Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, Units 1, 2 and 3

- Revised Schedule for Extended Power Uprate Amendment Request Review (TAC Nos. MD5262, MD5263, and MD5264) (TS-431)," dated September 18, 2009.

The purpose of this letter is to acknowledge receipt of the reference NRC letter of September 18, 2009, delaying the review of the Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant Units 1, 2, and 3 Extended Power Uprate (EPU) Amendment Requests to allow for the development of regulatory guidance on the use of containment accident pressure (CAP).

Based on your letter,1 TVA understands that the NRC will continue to work to close the other remaining EPU technical issues currently outstanding for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant, and resolution of the CAP issue can be expected in the Spring of 2010.

TVA considers that EPUs are an effective and efficient means of producing additional clean, economical power using existing generation assets. Additionally, TVA will work closely with the NRC to achieve closure of the remaining open items related to the EPU amendment.

Please direct any questions concerning this matter to G. P. Arent at (423) 365-2004.
