SUMMARY

OF JULY 9, 2008, MEETING WITH TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY ON THE UPCOMING BROWNS FERRY POWER UPRATE ACRS PRESENTATION (TAC NOS. MD5262, MD5263, AND MD5264)

On July 9, 2008, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff conducted a Category 1 public meeting with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA, the licensee) at NRC Headquarters, One White Flint North, 11555 Rockville Pike, Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the presentation of the results of the NRC staffs review of TVAs extended power uprate amendment request for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant (BFN), to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS). The meeting was open to the public. The enclosure contains a list of participants.

The meeting was a discussion of how the containment overpressure portion of the submittal should be covered at the ACRS Extended Power Uprate Subcommittee meeting scheduled for July 10, 2008. The ACRS meeting was to cover TVAs responses to three concerns identified by the ACRS regarding the need for containment overpressure credit to support net positive suction head requirements for emergency core cooling system pumps.

The participants focused on the information TVA intended to provide to the ACRS regarding the licensees request for containment overpressure. A draft presentation provided an overview of TVAs overpressure credit request. (See the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession Number ML082030616.)

A member of the public was present at the meeting and no feedback forms were received. No commitments or regulatory decisions were made by the NRC staff during the meeting. No proprietary information was discussed.
