SUMMARY

OF CHANGES, TESTS, AND EXPERIMENTS FOR THE HOFE CREEK GENERATING STATION MONTH FEBRUARY 1998 The following items completed during February 1998 have been evaluated to determine:

1. If the probability of occurrence or the consequences of an accident or malfunction of equipment important to safety previously evaluated in the safety analysis report may be increased; or
2. If a possibility for an accident or malfunction of a different type than any evaluated previously in the safety analysis report may be created; or
3. If the margin of safety as defined in the basis for any technical specification is reduced.

The 10CFR50.59 Safety Evaluations showed that these items did not create a new safety hazard to the plant nor did they affect the safe shutdown of the reactor. These items did not change the plant effluent releases and did not alter the existing environmental impact. The 10CFR50.59 Safety Evaluations determined that no unreviewed safety or environmental questions are involved.

Desian Chances Summary of Safety Evaluations 4EC-3628, Pkg. 1, Auxiliary Building Radwaste Area Heating, ventilation, and Air conditioning Modificat- 4s. This design change modi .sd the Auxiliary Building Rad- te Area Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) cems by installing a non-safety related chilled water cooling c 11 and a non-safety related electric heating coil in the supply air duct. This design change will enhance the ability to control the temperature and ensure that the Electro-Hydraulic Control (EHC) cabinet temperatures are maintained within their preferred limits.

The changes implemented by this design change are enhancements that-wi11 improve the reliability and availability of the EHC electronic components. The components affected by this design change are non-safety related. This design change did not increase the probability or consequences of a malfunction of equipment important to safety, create the possibility of an accident or malfunction of a different type than previously evaluated in the SAR, or reduce the margin of safety for any Technical Specifications. Therefore, there are no unreviewed safety questi ts associated with this design change.

Temporary Modifications Summary of Safety Evaluations TMR 98-003, Sarvice Water Intake Structure Sump Pump. This temporary modification installed a temporary hose to provide an alternate discharge path for three service Water Intake Structure non-safety related sump pumps. The hose bypasses a clogged sump pump discharge line.

The components affected by this temporary modification are non-safety related. This temporary modification does not impact the ability of any safety related systems or components to fulfill their design function. This temporary modification did not increase the probability or consequences.of a malfunction of equipment important to safety, create the possibility of an accident or malfunction of a different type than previously evaluated in the SAR, or reduce the margin of safety for any Technical Specifications. Therefore, there are no unreviewed safety questions associated with this temporary modification.

Procedures Summary of Safety Evaluations There were no reportable changes in this category implemented during February 1999.
