DPR-71 AND DPR-62 FOLLOV-UP TO SPECIAL REPORT PER TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION 3.7.7.2 AND PURSUANT TO TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION 6.9.2 (1-SR-88-001)

Gentlemen:

During Unit 1 power operation concurrent with the Unit 2 1988 refueling / main-tenance outage, a limiting condition for operation (LCO) was established on April 5, 1988, for fire protection deluge valve 1-FP-DV-22 to the sprinkler system of the units' common Service Water Building. This was done to permit isolation of the valve for repair of a leak involving the valve clappper latch seat ring. Due to a temporary unavailability of qualified replacement parts, the specified 14-day time frame of the LCO was exceeded on April 19, 1988.

Replacement parts to repair the valve are on-site and presently awaiting an  ;

Engineering evaluation prior to acceptance. It is expected required repairs and return of the valve to service will be accomplished during the upcoming Unit i refueling / maintenance outage, scheduled to commence on November 12, 1988.

Until completion of the required repairs and return of the valve to service, the subject LCO, with appropriate fire watches and backup fire suppression equipment, will remain in effect.

Very truly yours, Q%~
