The Tech ical Specificatio'n 31 day Limiting Condition for Operation A2 91 1207 expired.on August 22, 1991, prior to plant conditions allowing repair, without a largo personnel radiation exposure or shutting down the reactor. Preliminary trouble shooting had indicated an open circuit in the connector between the 89 -

accelerometer r,ad thu pull box. The Unit 1 Seismic Monitor is still available as an on site seismic monitor even if it does not cover the operability requirements of the Unit 2 seismic monitor.

The accelerometer location, on the Unit 2 Reactor Building 89' outside drywell vall, has dose rates of 150 to 200 mR/hr gamma and 150 to 200 mrem /hr neutron when the reactor is at power, verses 2 to 3 mrem /hr when shutdown, licalth Physics i

In order to avoid high exposure while it power, the repair will be deferred until the Unit 2 refuellng outage schcoultd to start Septemoer 11, 1991.

Additionally, Engineering Work Request 08086 is proposing a minor modification to the cabling that would install a bulk head connector inside the pull box. This I

enhancement will eliminate the need for the splice in the pullbox and simplify future repair efforts.
