SUMMARY

OF AUGUST 27,2008, CLOSED MEETING WITH ENTERGY OPERATIONS, INC. REGARDING ARKANSAS NUCLEAR ONE, UNIT 1 STEAM GENERATOR INSPECTIONS On August 27,2008, Entergy Operations, Inc. (Entergy, the licensee) met with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff in a closed meeting to discuss the first inservice inspection (lSI) results for the new steam generators (SG) at Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 1. The SGs were replaced in the Fall of 2005. The enhanced once through SGs (EOTSG) were manufactured by AREVA NP. The meeting was closed to the public to discuss proprietary findings as defined in in accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 2.390.

The NRC staff previously met with Entergy in August 29, 2007, to discuss the preliminary results of the root cause for the SG tube tie rod bowing and wear and agreed to meet again when the root cause evaluations were finalized. In addition at the next meeting, the NRC Staff requested Entergy to discuss the future inspection plans for the next outage, with an emphasis regarding secondary side inspections to confirm root cause.

During the August 27,2008 meeting, the licensee discussed the SG tube inspection findings in greater detail and stated that the preliminary root cause identified during the last meeting was verified. The licensee noted they have formed contingency plans for the following scenarios: 1) should the wear growth be greater than expected, 2) should the bowing be slightly greater than expected, or 3) should the bowing be in excess of operability.

For the upcoming inspection during the fall 2008 refueling outage, the licensee stated it will be performing inspections to:

1. Evaluate and confirm the apparent root cause and analysis inputs;

2. Evaluate general wear for comparison to predictions;

3. Evaluate wear on the 8th TSP; and

4. Identify possible unexpected conditions.

The NRC staff thanked Entergy for the presentation and requested if Entergy would update the NRC staff after the refueling outage. Entergy stated they would arrange for a meeting in February 2009.
